A two-piece plus-size set from Curve by Fantasy Lingerie. Pink and cream rose-print contour cups and a pink satin bow sit above a full, sheer black mesh skirt that finishes in a gathered floral ruffle, with a second bow at the centre back. A matching G-string is included.

What the Flora P270 is

The Flora P270 is a plus-size babydoll with a matching G-string, from the Curve line by Fantasy Lingerie. Its spine title reads "Flora Contour Cup Babydoll & G-string", which is the maker's own description of the two pieces, and the front of the pack is marked Plus Size.

A babydoll is a short, loose, nightdress-shaped garment: shaped across the bust, then unstructured from an under-bust seam all the way to a hem that lands around the upper thigh. Nothing below the bust is fitted. The Flora takes that shape and builds its whole look from a single rose print set against black mesh. There is more of the range in the Curve by Fantasy Lingerie collection, and plenty of other cuts in Babydolls.

One rose print, used three times

The print is a rose floral drawn in pink and cream with pale green stems and leaves, laid over a black ground. The roses are scaled large enough to read as individual flowers rather than as an all-over texture, and the dark ground between them is what makes the pinks come forward.

What distinguishes this garment from most printed babydolls is that the print is not confined to the bust. It appears in three separate places. It covers both cups. It runs the full way around the gathered ruffle at the hem, front and back. And a short section of it is inset into each shoulder strap, up near the top of the shoulder, so the print continues past the cups and onto the body of the garment.

The practical effect is that the pattern frames the garment at the top and the bottom with a long stretch of plain sheer black in between, instead of sitting in one block across the chest. From the back, where there are no cups in view, the strap insets and the hem ruffle are what carry the floral.

Contour cups, and what that means

Each cup is a contour cup — a single smooth, rounded, seam-free piece rather than a cup assembled from flat panels stitched together. That matters twice over here. It gives each cup a continuous, uninterrupted outline, and it lets the rose print run across the surface without a seam cutting through the pattern.

The cups meet at the centre front, and the straps are narrow, black and set wide on them. Partway down the back of each strap there is a small flat fitting where the strap runs toward the body.

The two bows and the centre back

A pink satin bow sits at the centre front, in the gap where the two cups meet. It is a proper ribbon bow with two loops and two tails, and it is the only solid block of colour on a garment that is otherwise print and sheer black.

The back answers it. A plain narrow band runs straight across the upper back between the two straps; there is a small opening at the centre of that band, and directly below it a second pink satin bow with long ribbon tails that hang down over the mesh. The result is a pink detail on the centre line from either side.

The skirt is gathered onto that upper-back band rather than hanging from the cups, so the back of the garment falls as an even fullness from the shoulder blades downward, with no panelling and no shaping through the waist.

The flared ruffle hem

The skirt is a fine black mesh, fully sheer and unlined. It reads as a dark veil rather than as fabric, and it is cut full so that it moves away from the body instead of following it.

The hem is where this style parts company with the plainer babydolls in the range. Rather than finishing the mesh with a narrow edge, the Flora layers it: the sheer skirt stops, and a densely gathered ruffle in the rose-print fabric is set below it and extends past it. So the lowest few inches of the garment are printed fabric, not mesh. Because the ruffle is gathered tightly it stands out from the line of the skirt instead of hanging flat, which flares the hemline and gives the light mesh above it something with a bit of body to fall onto.

Along the very bottom of that ruffle runs a narrow pale pink binding, picking up the lightest tone in the roses and closing the hemline with a defined edge.

Choosing a size

The size options for this style are listed on this page, and the garment's own sewn-in label is the authority on what was supplied. The pack is marked Plus Size.

Babydolls are among the easier pieces to buy because only the top of the garment has a fit to get right. Below the under-bust seam the Flora touches nothing — the waist and the hip are not held by it at any point — so the bust is where the decision is made. Within the bust, the contour cups are the least accommodating part: a seam-free moulded shape has very little give compared with a gathered soft cup, so if two sizes look plausible, let the cup decide rather than the skirt.

Set both strap fittings to the same length before judging whether the cups themselves are sitting correctly. An uneven pair of straps will make a well-fitting cup feel wrong, and it is an easy thing to miss. Dress the G-string first and put the babydoll on over it, so the skirt falls over the second piece rather than being tucked behind it.

Washing and storing it

This is a hand-wash garment, and three details on it are the reason why.

  • The print. Pink and cream dyes on a dark ground lose their contrast fastest in heat. Cool water and a gentle detergent are what keep the roses reading clearly against the black.
  • The satin bows. Ribbon that is crushed while wet and then dried in that state keeps the crease. Reshape both bows by hand while they are still damp and let them dry loose.
  • The gathered ruffle. Gathering is held by stitching that a machine drum pulls at. Squeeze the water out rather than twisting the garment, and let the ruffle hang free as it dries so it recovers its fullness.

Dry it on a hanger, clear of radiators and out of direct sun, and store it hanging rather than folded so the ruffle is not flattened and the straps do not kink. Fine mesh is caught easily, so give it space away from zips, hook-and-loop tape and jewellery in the drawer or wardrobe. If the care symbols on the label sewn into the garment say anything different, the label wins.

Who it suits

Someone buying plus-size lingerie who wants colour and a soft, romantic register will get the most out of this one. The roses, the two pink bows and the flared ruffle place it well away from the black lace, strapping and wet look that make up much of the rest of the department — it is a pretty piece rather than a severe one, which also makes it a straightforward gift.

It is less suited to anyone after something minimal or anything that provides coverage, since the body of the garment is sheer from the under-bust seam down and the hem is short by design. Because the two pieces are sold together, it also appeals to anyone who would rather not pair a G-string to a top by eye across two purchases. For adults 18 and over.

Good to know

  • The babydoll and the G-string come together as a set.
  • Everything between the under-bust seam and the hem ruffle is sheer, unlined mesh. The cups and the ruffle are the only opaque parts.
  • The hem ruffle sits below the mesh skirt, so the garment's lowest edge is printed fabric.
  • Fibre content and the full care symbols are printed on the label sewn into the garment; read it before the first wash.
  • This is adult apparel and not a toy. Store it out of reach of children.
  • Parcels leave us in plain outer packaging that carries no imagery, no product name and nothing describing the contents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Flora P270 come with the G-string, or is that a separate purchase?

It comes with the G-string — this is a two-piece set and both pieces are supplied together. The maker's pack states the contents on its spine as "Flora Contour Cup Babydoll & G-string", so the babydoll and its matching bottom are one purchase.

Where does the rose print appear on this babydoll?

In three places: across both cups, around the entire gathered ruffle at the hem, and as a short inset section on each shoulder strap. The large panel in between those areas is plain sheer black mesh, so the floral frames the garment top and bottom rather than covering it.

What is a contour cup?

A contour cup is a single smooth, seam-free cup shaped into a rounded form, rather than one stitched together from flat panels. On the Flora that construction does two jobs: it gives each cup a continuous outline, and it lets the rose print run across the whole cup without a seam breaking the pattern.

How short is the hem, and what is it finished with?

It is babydoll length, landing around the upper thigh. The finish is a densely gathered ruffle in the rose-print fabric, set below the sheer mesh skirt and extending past it, with a narrow pale pink binding along its bottom edge. The gathering makes the hem flare out rather than hang flat.

Will hand washing damage the bows or fade the print?

Not if the water is cool and the detergent is mild. Heat is what lifts pink and cream dye off a dark ground, and a crushed satin bow sets its crease as it dries, so reshape both bows while they are damp and hang the garment to dry away from direct heat. Defer to the care label sewn into the garment wherever it differs.

How discreet is the delivery?

Completely discreet. The outer packaging is plain, with no pictures, no product name and no wording about what is inside, so nothing identifies the order until it has been opened.
